Hélène Léveillée was born in Montreal. She distinguished herself at a young age for her drawing talent, which won her numerous school prizes. She then went on to study under renowned teachers at the École des Beaux-Arts, where she mastered the techniques of charcoal, pastels, watercolours and oils.

Inspired by nature, the change of seasons and rural landscapes, she is particularly interested in the plays of shadow and light, and in the bodily expressions of her characters.

A keen observer of everyday scenes, she is able to capture the simple moments in life. And as a well-known portrait painter, Hélène Léveillée has caught the essence of several figures on the Canadian political scene.
