It would be a good idea to enhance the square with other rosebushes in order to perpetuate this tradition.
Saint-Lambert was well known as a City in Bloom in the past. I believe that the Saint-Lambert Rose Society was founded in 1992 or 1993. Gordon Park was transformed into a rose garden that is enjoyed today. The Société des Roses du Québec (a provincial association) would come every spring for a day of maintenance of these rose bushes and these people worked on a volunteer basis.
The City of Saint-Lambert, on the South Shore, won the Entente florale internationale competition prize for the variety of tree cover and flowering throughout its territory in 1992.
The award was presented in Hasselit, Belgium, to the mayor of Saint-Lambert, Bertrand Girard, and the municipal councillor responsible for beautification, Marc-André Croteau.
Winner of the 1991 Villes et Villages fleuris competition and of the title of Ville verte du Québec, Saint-Lambert was chosen to represent Quebec in this international competition at the request of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Mr. von Picotte. The ministry is responsible for the competition on behalf of the Government of Quebec.
This is the first time that a North American city has participated in the competition, which this year included candidate cities from nine European countries.
