Froissement numérique (No B0076)

Sébastien Gaudette

Much of Sébastien Gaudette’s work evokes the syndrome of the blank page. The crumpled ball of paper is the image we often associate with this theme. But what interests this artist is what simple crumpled paper can elicit. A subject that at first glance might appear banal and uninteresting can sometimes metamorphose into something complex and voluptuous. The convoluted creases in the crumpling unsettle the viewer.

Froissement numérique was conceived after many photographic tests. Several types of paper were used in the investigation. The main idea was to capture the action of crumpling through a photographic documentary process.

THE ARTIST

Sébastien Gaudette holds a bachelor’s degree in Visual and Media Arts from UQAM (2015). The leitmotiv of his work is the crumpling of paper to inform the exploration of transformation and the illusion of image. The goal is to create ambiguity that leads us to question the process employed.
