He took a few courses at the city\u2019s \u00c9cole des beaux-arts and Museum of Fine Arts\u2019 school between 1948 and 1951, but owed the bulk of his artistic education to his readings and travels, in particular to New York.<\/p>\n\n<p>In 1965, he took part in The Responsive Eye, a major exhibition at New York\u2019s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), before representing Canada in 1968 at the 34th Venice Biennale, where he won the David E. Bright Foundation prize. The National Gallery of Canada organized a retrospective exhibition of Molinari\u2019s work in 1976 and again in 1995.<\/p>\n\n<p>Molinari was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1971; he received the Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award in 1973; and he became the youngest-ever winner of the Paul-\u00c9mile Borduas Prize in 1980.
