The painting Pommier-Bleu is part of a series created from photographs the artist shot over the course of a year in a century-old orchard in the Eastern Townships. This apple tree and its blue reflection on the snow represent a “moment” captured in the light of winter, suggesting an outcrop of roots on the surface of the ground.
The horizontal spread of the branches extended out like an invitation is accentuated by the tight framing of the photograph, which is sandwiched by painted areas, giving free reign to the imagination.
