Shot on the St. Lawrence River aboard a crab boat from Rimouski, this piece belongs to a body of work called Le Naufrage (The Shipwreck), an investigative photographic project that is the result of an alliance between a documentary approach and a historical document.
Fascinated by the St. Lawrence River beyond its simple representation as a navigational channel, the artist created a series that explores the watercourse as an element that unifies the origins and traditions of Quebec communities.
Charles-Frédérick Ouellet’s photographic essay examines the sea as an active element in the way people live along the shore.
