Figures 6

Open Air Museum

Sylvie Chartrand

Due to construction work on the building, the artwork is currently being stored until fall 2018. Thank you for your understanding.

The digital prints in Sylvie Chartrand’s “Figures” series are created from still images extracted from a video. Juxtaposing the near and the far, the space of Figures 6 evokes a scene. The dress of the female figure and the curtain echo each other in this image within an image, where the silhouette seems to evoke an unveiling.

THE ARTIST

Sylvie Chartrand has been manipulating images (photo/video) and playing with representations of the human body since 2001. A graduate of the Studio national des arts contemporains - Le Fresnoy (2002) and supported by Hexagram and the FRQSC, she completed a doctorate in art studies and practices at the Université de Québec à Montréal (UQAM) in 2018.

She creates works in various forms: photographic sequences, video installations and performing installations. They have attracted notice at major exhibitions presented in Quebec, Canada and abroad—including Le Rêve des formes, currently taking place at the Palais de Tokyo (Paris)—as well as at performance, theatre and dance events.
